Special Education Support

The PTSA sponsors recognition programs for special education students and, in addition to the SLHS staff, offers assitance to their parents. If you have any suggestions or questions, please contact Mary Nell Clark, the PTSA Special Education Representative.

Best Buddies is returning to South Lakes High School for a second year! Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies is a vibrant, international organization that has grown from one original chapter to more than 1,500 college, high school, and middle school campuses across the country and internationally.  In its first year at South Lakes High School, Best Buddies has 15 buddy pairs and 50 registered members.

The FCPS Parent Resource Center supports parent participation in the education of students with special needs. Confidential meetings, training opportunities, comprehensive resources including a lending library, and a year-long calendar of workshops are offered for parents, educators, and community members. ADHD: Boys vs. Girls: Does Gender Matter?
Tuesday, December 15, 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Woodson High School, entrance #2 , Cavalier Hall
Patricia Quinn, MD, author of Putting on the Brakes and Understanding Girls with ADHD, will present. Learn how gender not only affects symptoms of ADHD, but also social skills, coexisting conditions and various treatment modalities.
